Quando si crea un habitat, si aggiunge un animale iconico della foresta: l'orango, la tigre di Sumatra, il bucero, il cassowary o il rinoceronte di Sumatra. HUTAN si gioca in 9 turni e tutti i giocatori fanno due turni per ogni turno. Al proprio turno, si prende una carta fiore dal pool del mercato comune e si posizionano i fiori nella propria foresta pluviale. Se si posiziona un fiore su un fiore corrispondente, si crea un albero. Quando un'area è piena di alberi, l'ultimo albero viene sostituito da un animale. Alla fine della partita, il giocatore che ha coltivato la migliore foresta pluviale e ha attirato il maggior numero di animali ottiene il maggior numero di punti e vince.
